Inter Miami CF after the most successful regular campaign in history, in which it conquered the Supporters Shield with a record points, fell surprisingly eliminated by Atlanta United in the first round of playoffs and evaporated its dream of conquering its first MLS Cup.

It was very hard to lose 2-1 and 3-2 to Atlanta in the second and third games respectively, after winning 2-1 in the first. However, he qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League 2025 for the second consecutive year and earned the right to occupy the U.S. position to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup.

Lionel Messi despite his absences due to injury and international commitments had a great campaign to which he contributed 20 goals and 16 assists in only 19 games, in addition to delighting football lovers with his fantasy game.

As if that weren’t enough, his coach Gerardo Tata Martino announced this Friday that he was leaving the team for personal reasons, and immediately the club had to give the task of recruiting a new technical director, a task not easy.

The first one that sounded was the former Barcelona technician Xavi Hernandez, but little by little that idea was diluted, according to sources because the coach was more interested in continuing his career in Europe.

And now the one who sounds strongly is the technician of the Argentine Under-20 team Javier Mascherano, Messi’s former partner in the Argentina team and in Barcelona in his most glorious stage.

Everything indicates that Mascherano and Inter are in the midst of negotiations and that according to the club’s co-owner Jorge Mas, the new coach will be announced shortly.

The MLS experience would be good, but I don’t think it’s the main criterion. I think it’s more about how the plant is handled with unlimited potential, Mas said. Did I talk to Leo on Saturday after he and Tata talked? I asked him what was important to him and to get the best out of our staff and his thoughts weren’t very different.

With a base of Argentine players on the Mascherano team it seems ideal, in addition to that it can give continuity to the good work done by Martino and contribute something more in defensive tasks, right now the Achilles Talon of the team.

The “Jefecito” also knows Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez with Messi pilates of this team and their adaptation and leadership is beyond doubt. The lack of knowledge of the MLS supplements it with the full support of Leo, which is very important.

In Argentina they take for granted Mascherano’s arrival at Inter Miami and that the disassociation of the Argentine youth team will not be a problem.

Inter’s 2025 preseason training will begin as soon as January 10. Jorde Mas explained if there will be a tour, but that this will take more account of the sporting aspect than the economic aspect hoping that 2025 will be another great year.

For now, they will have to watch the playoffs on television, in which Orlando after eliminating Atlanta will play the Eastern final against the NY Red Bulls leaving its neighbor NY City in the ditch. In the West Souders eliminated the LAFC favorite and will be measured in the final to LA Galaxy that left Minnesota out.
