The wait is over and this Sunday Kylian Mbappe finally made his debut as a goalscorer in LaLiga by scoring a double that contributed to Real Madrid’s hard-fought victory over Betis (2-0), only the second for the Whites in the first four rounds of the Spanish championship.
That was precisely the time that the French star had to wait to open his scoring account with the Merengues in the local tournament where the ‘9’ had played all the previous matches although without being able to shake the nets. However, this Sunday he did it twice.

After the draw against Las Palmas (1-1) this week, Real Madrid came into the match against Betis with the need to shake off the irregularity that they have been showing in this start and demonstrate the forcefulness that is expected of the team, but it was not until the 67th minute that they managed to react.
Kylian Mbappe, who had made his debut as a goal scorer for Real Madrid in his first match by scoring in the European Super Cup in the middle of last month against Atalanta (2-0), received a spectacular backheel pass from Uruguayan Fede Valverde to finally break the net at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The French star escaped from the mark of two Betis defenders to receive the ball alone inside the area and with a low shot, to the right post, he ended up opening the scoring to take the pressure off of making his debut as a goalscorer in the Spanish championship.
In the 75th minute, Mbappe scored again, this time via penalty, after a foul committed on Brazilian Vinicius Junior that was ruled out after a VAR review. Carlo Ancelotti had indicated that he left it up to the Frenchman and the Brazilian to decide who would take the penalties and this time it was the ‘9’ and he did not miss.
Real Madrid, is still far from FC Barcelona
The irregular start of the Merengue team this season in LaLiga contrasts with that of FC Barcelona, who lead the table and maintain a distance of four points with respect to the Whites, Atletico de Madrid, and Villarreal, all of them tied with eight points.
The Catalans are coming off an impressive 7-1 win over Valladolid this weekend, crowning their fourth victory in as many games so far, a series of results that has left a very positive impression on the work of German coach Hansi Flick.
The Catalans’s momentum will have to wait a couple of weeks before being put to the test again with the double date of FIFA matches in September. The next match for the Barcelona team will be against Girona in the fifth round of the Spanish championship on Sunday 15th of this month.
Carlo Ancelotti regrets the break
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out after the Merengues’ victory over Betis on Sunday and made it clear that he is not happy with the pause corresponding to the FIFA double date this month that will paralyze the Spanish league for two weeks.
“The break is not good because a break is never good. It takes away the players, especially those who travel to South America, and it will be difficult for them to return in good shape,” said the experienced Italian coach in the press conference after the match.
