In the most incredible way, a performance by the gods of Tyler Herro was wasted. With 10 triples and 40 points, they deserved a win, but instead, the Heat (4-6) lost 123-121 in extra time against the Pistons (5-7) for a technical failure of coach Erik Spoelstra on Tuesday night at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, in the first league Cup match. It was not the result we wanted, but Tyler’s 40-piece kept us in this one all the way to the end

With six triples in the fourth period, Herro tied the game 111-111 when it looked like an inevitable defeat and sent him to extra time, in one of the most phenomenal performances in the NBA.

With the score 121-119 in favor of Miami and 01.1 seconds on the clock, Cade Cunningham pulled out for the Pistons and gave the ball to Julen Duren who tied the challenge.

Spoelstra immediately asked for a time when his team didn’t have and was penalized with a free throw, which Malik Beasley scored to seal Detroit’s unexpected victory.

That’s my fault. I feel horrible about it. There’s really no excuse for that. I’ve been on the team for 17 years. We had talked about it at the previous meeting. I knew we didn’t have a dead time. I got excited and reacted to that and made a terrible mistake at the end. It’s a shame because we really fight.

This match was also valid for the Emirates NBA Cup tournament (by its name in English), which is played within the regular season and in its first phase consists of four matches for each team.

After the crash in Detroit, the Heat will begin a two-game series against the Indiana Pacers on Friday (7 p.m.) at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The first of them will be the second meeting of the Heat valid also for the League Cup.

The Miami quintet came from beating the Timberwolves 95-94 in a dramatic finale on Sunday in Minneapolis to break a streak of three consecutive defeats.

The match in Detroit ended with two falls in combat Serbian Nikola Jovic suffered from the partition and did not finish the day. The same was true of Tim Hardaway Jr., who left the board in a wheelchair after a crash against Herro.

The Heat’s top scorers on Tuesday were Herro with 40 units, eight assists, and five rebounds. The escort stayed at one point at the top of his career.

He was seconded by Bam Adebayo with 20 points and 12 rebounds; Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Duncan Robinson with 14 each.

For the Pistons, they were Malik Beasley and Cunningham with 21 putts each, Jaden Ivey with 19, Tobias Harris with 18, Isaiah Stewart with 13, Tim Hardaway Jr. with 11, Simone Fontecchio with 10 and Duren with eight and 11 rebounds.

The Heat started 0-10 due to the rough marking that the Pistons put on and that cost to adapt. Spoelstra immediately put Jaquez Jr. and Jovic and both scored to put the game 4-13.

Soon after Jovic and a rival collided and the young Serb left the tabloid as he bleed through his nose.

Despite the efforts, the Heat could not solve the Pistons’s physical game and lost 32-21 in the first quarter.

After being down by 18 points (39-21) just started the second quarter, the Heat quintet was forced to make an extra effort.

With triples from Herro, Robinson, and Adebayo, Miami cut the distance and got to a point. Then, with an Adebayo basket, he passed up 44-43 with just over three minutes to go to rest.

The Pistons struck again and there was a 47-point tie. From then on with some good deeds from Hardaway Jr., the son of the Heat’s former ace who was in the stands, Detroit regained the lead and finished the first half 57-51.

Within 8:46 minutes before the close of the third quarter, Hardaway Jr. had to go out in a wheelchair for two strokes he received repeatedly, first from Adebayo and then in a clash against Herro, and there was an atmosphere of great concern in the arena.

The fight was very intense, but the Pistons could penetrate the Heat’s defense and took the period 91-82.

The fourth and final period was a Herro concert, which allowed the match to be tied. Too bad that this performance could not be celebrated with a triumph due to Spoelstra’s technical error.
