Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will finally be placed on injured reserve after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s game between Miami and the Buffalo Bills.

Tagovailoa will be out of action until at least Week 8, giving him enough time to complete the various stages of the NFL’s concussion protocol and even get second opinions from neurologists.

Tua suffered the concussion last Sunday when he collided with Bills safety Damar Hamlin while trying to get a first down with the game already lost.

Luckily he was able to leave the field on his own feet after lying on the field for a few minutes.

The deathly silence at Hard Rock Stadium and the sadness of the Dolphins fans at the end of the game expressed the severity of the injury, which now seems a little milder.

The feeling of another lost season was a common denominator. This is the third official concussion Tua has suffered in the NFL and there are those who suggest he should call it quits now, fearing future consequences.

However, the quarterback has said he has no plans to retire. His coach Mike McDaniel does not want to know anything about his return timetable and only says that he is worried about the person and that everything is out of his control.

“I think it’s a top priority for Tua to talk about his career,” McDaniel said.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m just concerned about the human being and how he’s doing day to day. I think I’ll let Tua be the champion of his own career and talk about that.”

After two days of uncertainty, the Dolphins have made a move by placing Tua on the injured reserve list and signing Ravens practice squad quarterback Tyler Huntley.

The selection of veteran Hunley was a surprise and will be the backup to Skylar Thompson, whom McDaniel has given full confidence to start the next game against the Sounders in Seattle.

If all goes well, Tua could return in the match against the Arizona Cardinals on October 27, although theoretically he could already be removed from the list after Week 6, which is four weeks, but Miami has a bye and in Week 7 it will be four weeks.

In their AFC East division, the Dolphins are 1-1, as are the New England Patriots and New York Jets, while the Bills lead with 2-0.

The Dolphins will play the Tennessee Titans at home in Week 4, the Patriots away in Week 5, they will have a bye in Week 6, and they will face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7.

All of those games are winnable, and a 5-1 record could be built up if Tua returns in Week 8.

Skylar hasn’t shown much, but he has the potential and could grow in this opportunity to lead Miami to four straight wins.

But to do so, the Dolphins have a lot of things to fix, considering the disappointing game against Buffalo in which nothing worked.

For now, Skylar Thompson will be the quarterback in charge of leading the Dolphins’ offense, a team that last Monday announced the signing of Tyler Huntley as Thompson’s backup.

Now we just have to hope for Tagovailoa’s best recovery, for Thompson to do well in Seattle, and for the season not to die out.
